DAY 8 - MORNING

There's good news and bad news.

The good news: she got up this morning and went to the bathroom with NO help.  She has been in such pain, that this activity can sometimes take quite awhile and she always needs help because any bending or moving causes a lot of pain.  Apparently not this morning.  That's great news.

The bad news: the first thing she did when she woke up was vomit.  The nausea has not abated at all.  The nurses came in to start her treatments and we sent them away.  The doctor came in and again said that there's nothing they are giving her that should be making her nauseous.  He recommended they put a scope down her throat to see what's going on.  This would likely involve going back home because it would be covered in the states.

Since we haven't received the images from Hoag (should today or tomorrow), they are going to do a CT scan because that's covered in the payment we've already given them.  They want to do a CT with contrast - for those of you who don't know - that involves drinking a glass full of liquid chalky stuff.  That's not going to happen.  I made her a cup of chamomile tea this morning - she took one sip and almost threw up.  No way is the chalky stuff going down.  So they'll have to settle for a CT with no contrast.

So, we are waiting for them to come take her for that exam and we'll go from there.

Just an added note:  the doctor talks about her cancer as if it's very manageable.  He has made several comments about "people who have cancer all over" ... or "really bad" and he always says "but that's not you, it's just gone into the bones."  Now, that is not a sentence I would say "just" in... but it seems that because it's not in other organs, they feel that it's very treatable with their regimen.  And probably 99.9% of everyone who gets nauseous, gets better with the nausea meds they are giving her.  So, we just have to get over this hurdle and I think things would get much better.

Thanks for the update, just wish they could find something to abate the nausea! The following ideas feel like a pittance, but I offer them in love and in hopes just maybe it might be a new idea! Here goes: Ginger or peppermint tea. Aroma therapy options: peppermint or lavender oil on a kleenex...take a wiff when the nausea hits...or put some in an oil infuser. Lastly...accupunture/acupressure have had some good results for relieving severe, chronic nausea and vomiting. The acupressure spots have no risk for the trying: there are 3. 1-inside wrist near the pulse spot, about 1/2 inch above the radial checkpoint. 2- below knee, inner aspect top of lower leg. 3-ear, the inner aspect, top edge..call for more details, but you can sometimes palpate near those general areas, and sense a specific tender area...thats the spot. Apply acupressure there. It just might help! Love you both. Hoping to send some financial love your way soon, the Benefit Concert energy is picking up fast. We will tape some of it for you! But it is 4 hrs long, so not all of it. Love you! Michelle
